Sandy arrives at Turf Moor

Stewart remained in Scotland for St. Johnstone's Challenge Cup Final and remained until such time as the new manager was appointed, and that happened on Tuesday with captain Derek McInnes getting the job.

Coyle and Stewart were back together again today, ready to take training at Gawthorpe, and the manager said: "We are delighted to get Sandy to this football club. He is here because he has an awful lot to offer. He is a good foil for me too because he is a different character and you need that.

"Both he and Steve Davis are opinionated and I love that. I want strong characters around me and not just people who agree with me. I know I will get that with Sandy and that will be to the benefit of the club."

Coyle added: "He will be a valuable addition to the staff and, along with Steve Davis and I, we can now get about trying to work with the first team and get them playing how we want. We all have a part to play, including Terry Pashley who has been fantastic and will continue to help out.

"We all have a role to play. It is not about any individual but about taking the whole club on and we will do that."
