Sam Ellis is back in football

They have worked together since Stan stepped up into the manager’s job at Bury following the departure of Mike Walsh and he continued as assistant to Stan for around nine years.

On their appointment at Burnley six years ago yesterday when asked how the partnership worked Sam said, "I do as I am told."

But today Sam has taken the assistant manager’s job at Leeds, working for new manager Kevin Blackwell who has recently taken over from Eddie Gray.

Ellis, who started his playing career with Sheffield Wednesday, has previously coached at Manchester City as well as holding the manager’s job at Blackpool, Bury and Lincoln.

So it looks as though Stan will be looking for a new number two when he gets a new job as Sam stays in Division One.
