Salisbury is Reebok referee

Last updated : 11 February 2014 By Tony Scholes

Salisbury is now in his 13th season as a Football League referee and, maybe soon, he and his son will be joining the Oliver clan. Former league referee Clive Oliver was followed by his son Michael who is now refereeing in the Premier League.

Salisbury's son is also Michael and he's now a Football League assistant referee and tonight will join his dad as he takes up his place as fourth official.

We have to go back to 11th August 2001 for Salisbury's first ever Football League game. That was Hartlepool v Mansfield and the only player carded was Mansfield's Liam Lawrence. Two games at Division One level, now Championship, followed that season. The first was a 1-1 draw between Rotherham and Grimsby with former Claret John Mullin his first yellow card.

Maybe the reason we have had such a wait for him to referee one of our league games could be him being from Preston, but tonight will be his fifth Championship game of the season in what will be his 19th game.

In the 18 so far he's issued 56 yellow cards and just one red card. Of those yellow cards 29 have gone to home team players and 27 to away team players. The only player he has sent off is Middlesbrough's Rhys Williams in their 3-3 home draw against Bournemouth.

Last time out he refereed Leeds' 5-1 win against Huddersfield. There were three yellow cards for Sam Byram and Rodolph Austin (Leeds) and Murray Wallace (Huddersfield).

That game at Morecambe won him a RATE THE REF rating of 42.44 out of 100 which sees him in 62nd place in the table.

The assistant referees are Steven Copeland (Merseyside) and Paul Kettlewell (Lancashire). The fourth official is Michael Salisbury (Lancashire).
