Saganowski not for Burnley

Reports recently suggested that we'd made an offer for Saganowski and this was confirmed by Steve Cotterill. At the time it looked as though Southampton were clear favourites to sign the player who had spent four months on loan at St. Mary's in the second half of last season.

But there appeared to be a problem in that the Saints were struggling to put a package together to complete the deal and besides Burnley there were also enquiries from Leicester and Watford.

Watford was a very unlikely destination, he'd been considered not good enough by Boothroyd after a trial last season, and a move to Leicester didn't look to be on the cards. That left us as potential front runners if Southampton couldn't come up with the deal.

However, they did just that today and as we were convincing the appeals panel to agree to a work permit for Berisha, Southampton held a press conference to confirm Saganowski as their first summer signing in a £680,000 deal from French club Troyes.

He has signed a three year deal with them and said today that they were always his first choice and that it was always intended that he would sign at this time, just ahead of pre-season training although the deal was agreed on 8th June.
