Ryan heads down under

Townsend is flying back to Australia where he will join the Aussie’s Under-20 squad and he could well feature in up to three games whilst he is there.

It’s not bad for a Moston lad with a Mancunian accent but Ryan lived in Perth in Western Australia for nine years before returning to England to join the Clarets in 2002.

The season started well for Ryan. He was given a squad number by manager Steve Cotterill and was on the bench for the first few games of the season before being forced out with shin splints that proved to be a stress fracture.

He’s been back in action for a few weeks now and has been playing regularly in the reserves and youth team as he gets back to full fitness.

Townsend is looking forward to the trip and hoping to get himself into the squad for the three matches and after scoring the stoppage time goal that took us into extra time in the Alliance Cup Northern Final on Saturday he did tell Clarets Mad that he was hoping to be back for the final.

There’s still no date for the final but hopefully Ryan, due back during next week, will be back well in time to take his place in the side.
