Ronaldo – the Claret

Last updated : 23 June 2003 By Tony Scholes

All Burnley supporters are equal especially those who are prepared to pay a bit more. Paying a bit more was sitting on the Turf watching us concede seven goals against Watford and Sheffield Wednesday and receiving a text message at 25p each time as the goals went in.

But sometimes that 25p really is worth spending and today those who have signed up are the ONLY Burnley fans to have been told that Ronaldo is now a Claret. The news, along with the new deal for Graham Branch, is yet to reach the official web site but already the town has gone crazy in much the same way as it did when Ian Wright signed.

Stan has been unable to comment on this fantastic news and Barry Kilby isn’t available. Chief Executive Andrew Watson is running round trying to find ways to market Ronaldo’s name and make even more money than the 25p per person already collected. Watson is the most excited around Turf Moor as he realises just how much this move will make for him.

The big question though is will he get a game. With Taylor, Moore, Blake and Papadopoulos in the squad he might find himself on the bench as we start our new campaign.

And a quick check of the date confirms it really isn’t 1st April.
