Barry Robson - in action for Scotland
The name most often touted as a January signing is Celtic's Derek Riordan. The 24-year-old striker was a prolific scorer with Hibs in his home town of Edinburgh before his move to Celtic in the summer of 2006.

He's never been establish himself with the SPL leaders and to date just seven of his 21 league appearances have not been from the bench. He's scored five goals in those games including a late equaliser in last week's home draw with St Mirren.

Riordan has won one cap for Scotland, that coming in a friendly against Austria at the Arnold Schwarzenegger Stadium in Graz in August 2005. Both Graham Alexander and Steven Caldwell played in the game.

This weekend the Scottish press were suggesting we were about to make a £750,000 offer for Dundee United midfielder Barry Robson. The 29-year-old began his career with Rangers but didn't make the first team at Ibrox. He made his name with Inverness Caledonian Thistle before signing for Dundee United in July 2003.

Like Riordan he's made one substitute appearance for Scotland, Robson's coming in August of this year against South Africa at Aberdeen. Although there were no current Clarets in that side he did replace Steven Caldwell's brother Gary during the second half and lined up alongside a former loan player in Jay McEveley.

Barry Robson scored the first ever Turf Moor goal of the Steve Cotterill era. Back in July 2004 he gave Dundee United an early 1-0 lead in the pre-season friendly.
