Robson goes at the Hawthorns

Robson, a former West Brom player, was in some ways very fortunate to remain in charge following relegation. The fans wanted a change then but he was backed at the time by Chairman Jeremy Peace.

The arguments against him were that the side didn't move on, that he left fans scratching their heads with his tactical decisions, and more so that in 22 months in charge they won only twice away from home, a run that has continued into this season.

They appear to have started this season reasonably well, but promotion is a priority and despite dropping their first home points of the season on Saturday when the were held to a draw by Southend, the start has been deemed not good enough by the West Brom board and Peace said today: “In view of the results from early 2006, it has been decided that a change is necessary if the club is to achieve its aims for this season and beyond.”

So, Blackwell wasn't the first to go – and for the record West Brom's two away wins under Robson in the Premiership were at Charlton in 2004/05, courtesy of a Robert Earnshaw hat trick, and last season at Wigan.
