Robinson looking to complete ninety minutes

Last updated : 03 November 2006 By Tony Scholes
It was the home game against Rotherham, played in March 2005, a game we won 2-1, Tony Grant and Frank Sinclair scoring within the first fourteen minutes after we had gone a goal behind.

He'd refereed our game at West Ham earlier in the season, and had something of a nightmare, and he came to Turf Moor that day on the back of a dreadful performance in the League One game between Port Vale and Colchester that left both managers seething. Colchester boss Phil Parkinson said the video of his performance should be used for training new referees on how not to do the job.

Again, he had controversy last week when he sent off Norwich's loan goalkeeper Jamie Ashdown in their 5-0 defeat at Stoke, a decision that left him facing a grilling from Chris Kamara the following day, Kamara claiming that Robinson was not aware of the laws and FIFA directives.

He's certainly not a good referee, although he is now in his tenth season on the Football League list. He's not over keen with his cards though and again this season has handed out just ten yellow cards, plus the one red card, in five games, and six of those ten yellows came in one game between Huddersfield and Bournemouth. It's even with the home and away bookings, five each from those first ten.

Robinson is not a referee who inspires, I'm yet to see a decent performance from him, although the first half against Rotherham wasn't too bad until his calf injury forced him off.

Neil Yates won't be with him tomorrow, he will be assisted by David Benton (Yorkshire) and Paul Curry (Northumberland) whilst fourth official duties will be carried out by Philip Bramley (Yorkshire).
