Robbie wins January goal award

Robbie Blake
There were just five goals to choose from after the month started with two shut outs at Blackpool and then in the FA Cup against Arsenal. There were three from Robbie Blake and two from Ade Akinbiyi, and it was the first goal of 2008 that ran out an easy winner with 44.7% of the vote.

That was Robbie Blake's volleyed winner following a cross from Wade Elliott in the second half of our home game against Plymouth. Wade and Graham Alexander had linked well down the right before the ball was played in low to Robbie who hit it on the turn giving goalkeeper Romain Larrieu no chance.

The other four goals were all very close in the voting. Robbie's opener last week against Scunthorpe edged second place, ahead of Ade Akinbiyi's goal at Coventry. Robbie's winner at the Ricoh was fourth and surprisingly in last place was Ade's last week, a goal that featured the superb pass from Joey Gudjonsson and the brilliant work from Wade Elliott on the right.

Robbie now joins our other monthly winners - Ade Akinbiyi (August), Clarke Carlisle (September), Chris McCann (October) and Joey Gudjonsson (November/December) - and wins an automatic place in the Goal of the Season poll in May.
