Burnley Football Club yesterday announced the signing of young midfielder Robbie Leitch on a free transfer.

The former Motherwell man, 18, who will link up with the Development Squad, has signed a two-year at Turf Moor with a further year’s option in the club’s favour.

Robbie is the son of former Motherwell and Swindon midfielder Scott Leitch and claims the move to Burnley was simply too attractive to turn down.

He said: “I’m delighted to sign here because it’s a club that is really going places and the fact they’re back in the Premier League is great.

“It was an easy decision to make because I think Burnley are that big of a club and I can’t wait to get started now.

“Hopefully I can play regularly for the U21s this season, and keep progressing to try and challenge for a spot in the first-team as quick as I can.

“I’ve got a bit of history in English football as my dad played for Swindon a few years back and hopefully I can do as good as him!”

Robbie is English, born in Swindon but has already tasted international football of a sort. He followed in his dad's footsteps earlier in his career when he represented North Lanarkshire in the International Children’s Games in Canada.

Robbie commented, “To win it as well was obviously brilliant so that was a good learning curve at such a young age which can hopefully help me in the future.”

We wish our latest addition to the ever swelling ranks at Turf Moor, all the very best in his future career at Burnley Football Club. (TEC).
