The winners of these awards, sponsored by the league's official sports drink, are announced on Sky television and last night Dion Dublin was the player nominated to miss out on the top three.

Third place was Charlton Athletic's China Captain Zheng Zhi. The midfielder has had some excellent games during January which allowed the China Captain to take that third place.

Robbie was second. Having had a run of games without a goal he netted in successive games against Plymouth, Coventry and Scunthorpe as we took maximum points. Those goals earned him a place in the last four and the panel gave him the runners up place.

The winner was Cardiff City's Joe Ledley who scored four times for the Welsh club in four league games and that included the only goal of the game in the win against Plymouth as well as a vital goal as they drew at West Brom.

Ledley's award makes it a double for Cardiff in January with Dave Jones having collected the Manager of the Month award. Cardiff's ten points from four games bettered any other club, with the Clarets second best with nine points.

I'm not at all sure how we got through January without Wade Elliott being nominated.
