Rivers flowing into Burnley would cost money

Rivers was very much on the fringe of the promotion campaign at Carrow Road last season. He started the season in the first team but an injury ruled him out and when fit he found his place filled initially by Kevin Harper, on loan from Portsmouth, and then youngster Ian Henderson.

With the signing of Arsenal’s David Bentley his first team chances will be even more limited next season.

The 28-year-old joined Norwich from his home town club Crewe three summers ago in the same week as Paul Crichton made the move to East Anglia and was one of Nigel Worthington’s first signings for the Canaries.

He cost £500,000 and although Norwich would not stand in his way if he did want to move on they have made it clear that they would want to recoup a sizeable return on their initial outlay and that would suggest that Burnley would not be in the running.

Worthington has said he has had no contact with Steve Cotterill and also confirmed that there has been no communication between the clubs. So if Rivers is about to become a Burnley player then no one at Norwich knows anything about it.

One club who have showed their hand are Crewe. Dario G tried to take him back on loan last season and has already indicated that he would like to have Rivers back at the Alexandra Stadium on a temporary basis for part of next season.
