He's signed a one year deal with them and goes straight into their squad for tomorrow's game against Gillingham but I'm not so sure manager John Barnes knows exactly what he's getting.

He said on completing the signing: "Michael is an experienced goalscorer who I am delighted to bring to the club. He is bit and strong and will add something different to our attacking options."

This experienced goalscorer left Bolton in January 2003, since then he's scored a total of 25 league goals for nine different clubs, and that figure was boosted with the nine he got last season for Walsall.

Ricketts was delighted to join Tranmere, where he could partner another former Claret Ian Thomas-Moore in attack. "The lure of playing for John Barnes, who was an idol of mine, and the style of football he wants to play were big factors in me coming here."
