Reserves still in with a shout after big win

Last updated : 30 April 2003 By Tony Scholes

This time it was Burnley on the right side of a 7-2 scoreline and that after trailing 2-1 early in the second half.

A Robbie Blake hat trick (he scored the first three) and further goals from Matt O’Neill, Richard Chaplow, Arthur Gnohere and Mark Rasmussen were enough to move Burnley out of the bottom two – for now.

We said that a four goal win would mean we could afford to lose the last game by one goal, but this win is better than ever. Not only is our goal difference now three better than Oldham’s we have now also scored more goals.

So to be relegated we have to lose at Tranmere by four goals or more, yes even a 3-0 defeat would be good enough – just about.

The Burnley team today was: Nik Michopoulos (James Salisbury), Danny Pitham, Arthur Gnohere, Richard Chaplow, Mark McGregor, Andrew Leeson, Brad Maylett, Andrew Waine, Robbie Blake, Tony Grant (Mark Rasmussen), Matt O’Neill. Subs not used: Ryan Townsend, Robert Grimes, Marc Pugh.
