Reserves still in title hunt

Last updated : 15 April 2002 By Tony Scholes

The win means our reserve team are now in 3rd place in the league with just the one game to play against Preston on Wednesday. A defeat in that last game would see us go no higher and could see us finish the season as low as fifth and with a draw we would finish either 2nd, 3rd or 4th.

A win though would win us the title although anything else would see our opponents win it. That means the title will be decided at the Giant Axe Lancaster on Wednesday evening, the venue for Preston's home reserve team games.

The title would be a superb first season for Ronnie Jepson as coach but it would also be a great achievement for the players particularly the younger players some of whom have been making names for themselves this season.

The only pity is that a Burnley side could be set to pick up a league title here and yet so few Clarets fans seem interested in going down to see them play. Hopefully we will win it and some of these young lads will be allowed to parade the league trophy around the Turf before Sunday's big game against Coventry.

Recent results in the league have been as follows:

Thursday 11th April

Port Vale 0 Birmingham City 3

Monday 15th April

Burnley 4 Barnsley 3
West Bromwich Albion 0 Oldham Athletic 0
Wolverhampton Wanderers 1 Port Vale 0
