Reserves in action

Defeats for both Walsall and Wolves this week have seen Sheffield United crowned champions with one game still to play. Until recently all but the bottom three were in with a chance of the title and even now only seven points separate them all.

But it is down at the bottom where we concentrate and who it will be that go down with already relegated Bury. It is quite simple, it is either Oldham or ourselves and everything is very much in our own hands.

Oldham have finished their season with a total of 22 points whilst the Clarets have 19 points with two games still to play. A win and a draw would see Burnley safe, a win and a defeat would make it difficult for us, but if we win neither then we go down and face games against the likes of Doncaster and Rochdale.

The first of our two games is today at the Turf against relegated Bury and quite simply we need to win and win well. The club have put so much importance on this fixture that they have decided to kick off at 2:00 p.m. to keep the bulk of our supporters away.

Clarets Mad intended to try and get as many fans there as possible but the club (the one who boasts you get free entry to reserve games with your season ticket) have elected to play it when most fans cannot make it.

One win and one defeat would make safety unlikely. Even if the defeat was by only one goal it would require us winning the other by four clear goals. Today though we need to get those first three points in the bag and then hope to get something at Prenton Park on Friday when we take on Tranmere Rovers in another 2:00 p.m. kick off.
