Reserves back in action at Accy

Ali Akbar - scored in the heavy defeat at Blackpool
It is six weeks since we last played a home (well, at Accrington) game and it is another ten weeks before the next scheduled fixture in the Pontin’s League when Rochdale will be the mid-January visitors.

We can expect a young side to take to the field tonight with the first team squad having been given the week off after their exploits at Luton on Saturday, so it is unlikely we will see such as Danny Karbassiyoon getting in another game as he progresses towards full fitness.

There’s no team news as yet but with no goalkeepers available it will almost certainly mean a dip into the centre of excellence teams to find someone to replace Mark Crossley who is serving a one match ban after being ridiculously sent off in the last reserve game at Blackpool when the Clarets lost 7-1 after taking the lead through Ali Akbar.

Reports from the Interlink suggest the game is not in any doubt, despite yesterday’s rain, and Shrewsbury have already named their side which will include Dave Walton who featured for the Clarets in a pre-season game against Dundee United in 2004 when he was still a Derby player. He’s on his way back after injury.

The side also includes four other players who have featured in the Shrews’ first team this season along with an as yet unnamed trialist, and are expected to give the Clarets a tough game. They will line up: Glyn Thompson, Henry Goh, Dave Walton, Gavin Cadwallader, Gavin Cowan, Ciaran Lyng, George Hughes, Jay Denny, Marco Adaggio, Steven Hogg, Trialist. Subs: Steve Leslie, Damien Stevens, Jamie Haynes, Tom Sparey.
