Reserve match called off

Last updated : 25 February 2004 By Tony Scholes

There was no problem with the pitch on Saturday despite the overnight frost with the under soil heating in operation but unlike last season this is not used any longer for reserve team games.

The temperatures were down below zero on our return from Reading in the early hours of the morning and this was always going to put tonight’s game in doubt and after a morning inspection the game has been called off.

It looks as though we would have had an inexperienced side out with Stan unlikely to risk too many players given that both Tony Grant and Paul Weller are out on Saturday. With Matt O’Neill (injured) and Joel Pilkington (ill) also missing it would have been a case of digging deep into the youth team.

It’s not the only game to be postponed today, the Barnsley v Hull City game has also been lost to the weather whilst Stoke’s home game against Rotherham has been called off because of Rotherham’s first team game at Millwall last night.

There have been two results this week. Walsall extended their lead at the top of the table on Monday with a 3-0 win against Sheffield Wednesday whilst Preston took a 5-1 hammering last night in a blizzard at the Bradford & Bingley Pulse Flamingo Land Pension Scheme Valley Parade Stadium at the hands of BRBC.

We remain next to bottom of the table and with Barnsley’s game being called off we cannot now go bottom tonight.
