Referee Jones is costing me fantasy points

Last updated : 01 December 2014 By Tony Scholes

Our late penalty ensured we didn't drop to the bottom again but with QPR beating Leicester it meant it was the London club now directly above us and Leicester holding everyone else up.

I have to admit to being shocked at that news. Leicester are a bigger club than us; they are more professional than us and they've improved from last season whereas we've gone backwards.

I'm thankful to Leicester boss Nigel Pearson for that information. Without him telling us after our draw there I really would have had no idea they were so far ahead of us, so it really is a big shock to see such a massive club down there.

The truth is, the two goals they scored at Loftus Road were the first goals they've scored since the two they got against us, and the truth is also that they haven't won since Mark Clattenburg clinched victory for them against Man United.

I got home from our game on Saturday to take in some of the Sunderland v Chelsea game from the Stadium of Light. I can't say it was enthralling but you'd have thought the home fans would have been thrilled with the point against the league leaders and surely the 2014/15 champions.

Apparently not, they've come in for some criticism for being too negative. What on earth did people expect them to do against this Chelsea team, go at them and lose a bag full of goals?

The big news though was under pressure boss Brendan Rodgers dropping Steven Gerrard, and worse still, on the date he made his debut. From the reaction it must be one of those protected days for Gerrard where he cannot be left out. To make it worse, Rodgers said he'd no idea.

They won; they beat Stoke 1-0. You'd have thought they'd won the title when in fact, even with this win, they remain in the bottom half of the table. I think it has been clear for some time; no Suarez means no title challenge. You could almost suggest this Liverpool team has lost some of its bite.

I was impressed with Spurs yesterday in their win against Everton. They are beginning to look a decent team, that is until we get there in just over a couple of weeks. We're due a win at White Hart Lane.

I mentioned Clattenburg earlier, but what on earth was Mike Jones up to at Southampton? One thing remains certain and that's when Jones makes a mistake you can virtually guarantee it will go in favour of the home side.

Southampton played Man City and two big decisions, incorrect decisions, went the home team's way in the first half. I'm still angry over his ridiculous decision to yellow card Sergio Aguero for diving when he had clearly been fouled in the penalty box. That cost me significant fantasy points although ultimately it didn't cost City who coasted to a 3-0 win against Southampton and replaced them in second place.

It's at the bottom end of the table where our interest lies and it is interesting to note that had the penalty gone in at Palace we would now be sat in 15th place, between West Brom and Villa on the same number of points.

Now we have the first set of midweek fixtures this season. There are only three and tomorrow's home game against Newcastle is the only one we have at Turf Moor.
