Rangers to lead Lafferty chase

There have been strong suggestions over the past couple of days that Rangers are ready to make a big offer for a striker, and that striker is Lafferty. There were suggestions of a bid in January but it was their rivals Celtic who pushed us the furthest with the Clarets turning down a bid rumoured to be around £3 million.

The Wolves interest first surfaced a year ago when Mick McCarthy tabled a £1 million offer that was turned down by the Clarets. At the time there was no further definite interest from the Midlands club but today the tabloids are reporting that they are ready to make a £4 million move for our Northern Ireland international, although it is believed that deal would involve players moving from Molineux to Turf Moor.

For much of 2007 the most likely destination, should we have decided to cash in, was Fulham. But that was during the short and unsuccessful reign of Lawrie Sanchez at Craven Cottage. When he went it is believed so did Fulham's interest.

Now it very much looks to be Rangers, Celtic and Wolves and it does look very much as though Rangers are the most likely to be the first to test our resolve with an offer, but it is certainly going to have to be at least £4 million to even interest us.
