QPR at the Turf for opener

Last updated : 22 June 2006 By Tony Scholes
Burnley will start the season at the Turf against QPR

We end the season at home too, against Coventry City in May, and that will be a reminder of the 2001/02 season when we came so close to reaching the play offs. One more goal against the Sky Blues that day would have seen us into the top six.

There's also a reminder of the early days in this division over Christmas, on Boxing Day to be exact when we visit Barnsley. We travelled to Oakwell on Boxing Day 2000, suffered a 1-0 defeat on a day when Stan Ternent officially cancelled Christmas and accused the players of having had too much plum duff.

Last season's Boxing Day game moves back a week and Stoke City will be the first visitors of 2007 in the New Year's Day game. It was just last Christmas that a 1-0 win against them, when Ade Akinbiyi scored his last Burnley goal, took us fifth in the table.

There are midweek trips to Leicester, Luton, Derby and Southend but just take a look at our last four away games of the season that see us travel to Preston, Birmingham, Leeds and Sunderland.
