Prices change at noon

Currently the situation is that you pay an extra £3 if you buy a ticket on the day of the game or pay cash at the turnstiles. The club have stuck to this idea despite wide condemnation from supporters and a strong protest from the Trust.

It has clearly upset and alienated a lot of fans, the club’s customers, and they did agree to review it after a couple of months. That couple of months is up and they have come up with this most baffling of decisions to change it and allow the non-surcharge price up to three hours before kick off.

It is neither one thing nor another and looks to many as if the club have realised their mistake but are not prepared to admit it and back down, so now we have a system where someone could go and buy a ticket just before noon on a Saturday and pay £3 less than someone who turns up a few minutes later.

One supporter said today, “For me it is a half measure. The official line was that the surcharge was put in place so as to make match day arrangements in terms of catering and staffing levels more cost-effective. How can they make those staffing decisions three hours beforehand?

“This charge has upset so many people that this wishy-washy amendment will make no difference. The club either needs to scrap this or have the courage of their convictions to keep the deadline as Friday night and admit it is being done to stuff away fans.”

Another supporter claimed “This is typical of Burnley FC, nearly doing what the fans want. I really cannot see the difference, apart from the odd few, moving the surcharge cut off time will have on the people who couldn’t make it before.”

There is no doubt that other clubs who do this infuriate Burnley supporters and there are some who will not travel to clubs who blatantly deal with away supporters in such a way, I suspect supporters of other clubs will start to view Burnley in the same way.

Chief Executive Dave Edmundson failed to really explain the change very well at all and said, “This is not a climb down. We always said we would review the measure after a few months. What we are doing now is encouraging those people who cannot make a decision until closer to kick off to buy their tickets at a discounted rate.”

Speaking on behalf of Clarets Trust, outgoing chairman Steve Corrigan said, ““Whilst we don’t think it’s a perfect solution, we are very encouraged that the club has listened to us and acted. This follows on from the dropping of the online ticket booking charge after the case we made against it, and shows that the Trust has already established a meaningful dialogue with the club”.

The changes will come into effect for the televised home game against Hull City when the surcharge will apply only for tickets bought after 5:00 p.m. This will be the case for all evening home games with the noon cut off point for Saturday games.
