Preston would love Glen but he is too expensive

The Lancashire club have had a fetish in recent years for signing either Burnley players or Burnley targets and nothing seems to have changed since The Weary Whinger Craig Brown stepped in to replace David Moyes.

He snatched Marlon Broomes from us just before the start of last season, has linked himself with two of our Manchester United targets and has now made it clear that he would like to have Super Glen in his squad.

During his online surgery this week, and early in his surgery before he put everyone to sleep he was asked about the possibility of signing Glen.

His chairman Derek Shaw spoke first and said, "I believe that Glen Little is Burnley’s highest paid player and is still under contract at Burnley, so it’s very difficult for someone to take the wage on.

"It’s not particularly the fee these days, it’s more the wages that are a problem and you have to make sure you don’t upset every single professional footballer you have at the club – you can’t just bring one in on sky high wages, otherwise you have everybody knocking on the door."

So on Preston’s say so Glen is on sky high wages but would they like to have in their squad, Brown told the couple of listening Preston fans,

"There’s no disputing the capabilities and the excellent performances we’ve seen, on occasion – not consistently this season – from Glen Little.

"He’s a fine, fine player and the year before last many authorities considered him to be the best player in the First Division, so he would be a good acquisition, but to pay his wage would alienate the rest of the staff, I am sure and he has got another year on his contract, so he is not going to come for less and there would be a modest transfer fee as well I’m sure.

"I think we have to be honest, although we would love him, he is out of our reach at the moment."

There has been much debate over Glen, particularly since his controversial loan move to Reading. One fan said to me in town last week that we should cash in on him and use the £3 million to bring in new players. I think he must have missed the last twelve months and the collapse of the transfer system.

Glen could even go for nothing now, or virtually nothing, if the club wanted to get him off the wage bill.
