Premiership star set for Turf Moor

According to newspaper speculation today it does look as though Stan has moved quickly to add a goalkeeper to his squad but it is not former Claret Marlon Beresford. It is claimed that Manchester United's 39 year-old Dutch keeper Raimond Van der Gouw has been offered a deal and is considering a move to Turf Moor.

Van der Gouw was 33 when he arrived at Old Trafford after a career in his native Holland with Go Ahead Eagles and Vitesse Arnham, in fact he played in 258 league games for Vitesse.

He was originally understudy to Peter Schmeichel at Old Trafford but since the Dane left he has had to sit and watch the likes of Mark Bosnich, Fabien Barthez and even for a short time was sub to Massimo Taibi.

With former Wigan keeper Roy Carroll now firmly in second position behind Barthez he is looking for an opportunity elsewhere. Should he sign and win a place in the side he wouldn't become the oldest to play in goal for the club, Jerry Dawson was 40 when he played his last game in 1928.
