Premiership Dowd for TV game

Last updated : 28 October 2005 By Tony Scholes

Tuesday night saw a very good performance from Uriah Rennie, albeit a game that was not a difficult one to referee, and looking back at last season it was very much the same with Dowd on all three occasions he refereed Burnley matches. The first of the three was the 2-1 win at Leeds, and he followed that up with the cup win against Bournemouth and the 1-1 draw at Derby.

He did manage to give out four yellow cards in each of those three games and that is par for the course again for him this season. To date he has refereed 12 games and the yellow card count has reached 48 with just a couple of red cards.

The two players he has sent off are Ipswich defender Castro Sito in their 2-0 defeat at Sheffield United and Lee McCulloch of Wigan in their 1-0 Premiership win against Newcastle. Hull will probably need to be more nervous regarding yellow cards, 32 so far have gone the way of away players with just 16 going to home players.

The assistant referees tonight will be Gary Brittain (Yorkshire) and Andrew Butler (Lancashire) whilst fourth official duties will be carried out by Yorkshire’s Jonathan Moss, himself a Football League referee currently in his first season.
