Portsmouth want Gascoigne

When he signed for the Clarets Gazza said that he already had offers from America and Dubai and more than one offer from Premiership clubs. He gave the impression that he would only stay at Burnley if we won promotion.

We didn't and it was immediately assumed that Gazza was on his way and Stan has virtually confirmed that this week by saying that he thought he had played his last game for the club. Having seen his performances for us it is difficult to see just how much he could give us over a long hard First Division season.

Now it looks as though he could be set to stay in Division One although a long way from Turf Moor and is supposedly considering an offer from Harry Redknapp to join Portsmouth. Last week it looked as though Pompey had lost Robert Prosinecki to Japan but that fell through and he could still be at Fratton Park next season.

Prosinecki had a nightmare at the Turf last November but run the show for Portsmouth down there against us recently and a pairing with Gazza in midfield sounds interesting. It is though more likely that they are looking at Gazza as a replacement for the Croat and I'm sure Redknapp knows what he is doing, he was astute enough to see off Rix.
