Pools to visit Burnley for cup

Last updated : 21 June 2006 By Tony Scholes
The draw was completed this morning and the first good news was the fact that we have been drawn at home in a game that will probably take place on Tuesday 22nd August.

Hartlepool suffered relegation at the end of last season, just a year after losing in the League One Play Off Final and coming so close to reaching the Championship. They have suffered with a series of managerial changes that have seen Neal Cooper, Martin Scott and Paul Stephenson all come and go and recently Danny Wilson has taken over.

Wilson, who was very close to becoming a Burnley player back in the early 80s, was sacked by Franchise at the end of last season after taking them into League Two and will be hoping for a quick return next season.

That last meeting, six years ago, saw Burnley come from behind in the first leg to win 4-1 before losing the second leg at Victoria Park 3-2. It was the last time this round was played over two legs and it created a Burnley record with Andy Payton becoming the first ever (and still only) Burnley player to score a hat trick after coming on as a substitute.
