Players, coaches and matches – we need them all

He currently has just eight senior players under contract and there is no doubt that he will need to bring a number of new players into the club over the next month before we start pre-season training at the beginning of July.

He will be talking to a potential signing this week and that follows on from speaking to a player last week who we believe to be a central defender with Premiership experience. He told the club’s official site, “The difficulty is players are already speaking to other clubs as it is quite late but I will know more shortly.”

Regarding his coaching staff he added, “In principle I have who I want in place for my staff but at the moment one has to work his notice and the other is currently away.

“I have no set deadlines for getting them in but obviously I would like to get them in as soon as I can.”

As we revealed yesterday one of the two is almost certainly Mark Yates and Steve will be speaking to him again just as soon as he returns from holiday. There are no clues as yet as to who the other is.

It looks as though a pre-season trip to Denmark is off but the new manager is now chasing up on the possibilities of playing matches in either Austria or Holland whilst he has tried to arrange Turf Moor friendlies against local Premiership clubs.

He is hoping to be able to talk to Barry Kilby this week on the feasibility of going into Europe if he can make any arrangements in either of those countries.

But the final word is with Steve Cotterill, “I’ve had a backlog of work to get through since I joined the club in order to get everything in the way that I would want it. It takes time and nothing happens overnight but everything is progressing well."
