Pike's at the Turf

Last updated : 01 April 2005 By Tony Scholes

The experienced Pike warmed up for the game with a red card in his last outing when he sent off Huddersfield’s Nathan Clarke in their 1-0 win at Hartlepool. This though is just his third red card of the season, the other two being Glyn Hurst of Notts County in a 1-0 defeat at Bury and Leicester’s Keith Gillespie as they lost 2-0 at Sheffield United.

Alongside those three red cards he has handed out 52 yellow cards in 27 games, less than two per game but that’s about as high as it gets for this referee who is not one to hand out cards to liberally.

Of those 52 yellow cards 25 have gone to home team players and 27 to away team players. In five matches this season he hasn’t handed out a single yellow card whilst the most in any one game is five.

He is though a referee who doesn’t seem to be able to have got a grip of the handball rule so we might just see a few players getting away with that tomorrow when he will be assisted by Jonathan Moss and David Storrie, both from West Yorkshire.
