Penton – and not in Norfolk

Last updated : 21 April 2006 By Tony Scholes

The 46 year old Penton has been on the Football League referees list since the start of the 2001/02 season but the Clarets have come across him just twice, and both of those games have been against Norwich City at Carrow Road. They were our last two visits there, in 2003/04 season and more recently on the Wednesday night between Christmas and New Year earlier this season.

He's a referee who has caused us no problems in either game, despite losing them both, and a referee who I have no concerns about ahead of tomorrow's game at the Den.

It's unlikely that we will have a card free game, there's been none from him in 36 games this season, and in those games he's handed out a total of 116 yellow and 9 red cards. Of those yellow cards 51 have gone to home players and 65 to away players, although in our game at Norwich all three cards went to home players.

If there is any concern then it will come if he decides to use his red card, all but one of those nine players sent off this season have been away players.

This will be his fourth Millwall game of the season, he was referee when they beat Bristol City 2-0 at home in the Carling Cup and was also in charge of their goalless draws at Plymouth and at home to Wolves.

He will be assisted by Roger Vaughan (Somerset) and Gary Young (Bedfordshire) whilst fourth official duties will be carried out by Steve Tincknell (Hertfordshire).
