Penny Permit

For the Clarets to make an application for a work permit they would firstly have had to have agreed a deal with the player with all the information forwarded to the Home Office, including details such as salary and length of contract.

At the time I believed that the deal had gone through and that we were making that application, one that would almost certainly require an appeal. I still believe that to be the case although it is certainly not as cut and dried as some would have you believe that we'll be successful.

Peru thankfully are high enough up the FIFA ratings. A country needs to be in the top seventy and they are currently six places above that. A player also needs to have played in 75% of that country's 'A' listed internationals over the previous two years.

Last summer Peru played in the Copa America but Penny didn't feature in any of their four games. However, he was in the squad for all four of their World Cup qualifiers played last Autumn. That would take him to 50% but he wasn't in the squad for the game against Columbia yesterday and he's not expected to play in their next game against Uruguay this coming week.

The tabloids suggested this morning that we would have to go to appeal, but that has always looked to be the case. Previous appeals have been heard within two weeks, but with no confirmation of any of this from the club it remains just now as speculation.
