Penn for Hull game

Last updated : 13 October 2006 By Tony Scholes
Last time out at the Turf we had to suffer the idiot that is Darren Drysdale, but Penn will be refereeing his fourth Burnley game and in the previous three he has had very good games. These have been the league games at Reading in the 2003/04 and 2004/05 seasons, and last season's Carling Cup tie against Barnsley.

Penn is now into his fifth season on the league list, and after a first over zealous season, he's very much calmed down and in 2005/06 he averaged only fractionally over two yellow cards per game and sent off only one player.

This season, he's refereed six games and in those games has given out seventeen yellow cards whilst also sending off Gillingham's Danny Jackman in their 2-1 League One win at Doncaster for two yellow cards, a decision that caused Gills' boss Ronnie Jepson no problems. There's no sign of favour for the home sides, eight of those yellow cards have gone the way of home team players, and nine to away team players.

Paul Crossley had a good game when we were at Norwich, allowing the players to get on with playing unlike the aforementioned Drysdale. Evidence suggests that we can expect Penn to be very much more like Crossley than Drysdale.

He will be assisted by Mark Astley (Greater Manchester) and J Stokes (Wirral) with K Evans (Greater Manchester) carrying out the fourth official duties.
