Pearson is the referee

Pearson at Deepdale last season
He was in charge of two away games last season at Bradford City and at Preston both of which were won 3-2. However it was at a cost. At Bradford he brandished four yellow cards and all were Burnley players. That day Alan Moore, Gordon Armstrong, Kevin Ball and Glen Little were the players booked.

Three months later at Deepdale he went three better with seven yellow cards and five of those were for Burnley players. On this occasion it was Kevin Ball, Lee Briscoe, Tony Grant, Nik Michopoulos and Gareth Taylor who received the cards. The Michopoulos booking was for handling the ball INSIDE his own penalty box.

This season Pearson has taken charge of two games, the First Division game between Rotherham and Norwich and Chesterfield v Port Vale in Division Two. On both occasions just one player has seen his yellow card and each time it has been a home team player.

This is in contrast to his record last season when he issued a total of 97 yellow cards with only 30 of them going to home team players and 67 to home team players. At one point in the season his record was even worse than that as he constantly appeared to overlook misdemeanours by home players.

There was only one red card though and that was in fact a home player in KKMC’s Danny Tiatto in their home game against Norwich City. Tiatto’s wonderful performance on his departure that day won him our Tw*t of the Week award in Week 13 last season.

Pearson’s last appearance at Turf Moor was early in the 2000/01 season when he took charge of the 1-1 draw against Portsmouth. The cards were evened out too that day with two for each side. Ian Cox and Paul Weller were both booked as were Lee Mills and Darren Moore of Portsmouth.
