Payton signs for Celtic

Payts has no hung up his boots and former Claret David Miller has persuaded him to sign for Stalybridge Celtic who play in the Unibond League Premier Division.

They ended last season, under the management of Miller, in fourth place behind Accrington Stanley, Barrow and Vauxhall Motors and will be hoping to clinch that top spot next time round for a return to the Conference.

Payts who left the Clarets at the end of the season after over two years virtually on the sidelines will find another familiar face there in Phil Eastwood who played alongside him on a few occasions at Burnley during the 1998/99 season.

There is no doubt that Burnley fans interest in Stalybridge Celtic will have increased enormously with this news and I think it is a fair bet that many Clarets will be keeping a close eye on their scores (and in particular their goal scorers) next season.
