Pawson to referee our Amex debut

Last updated : 16 December 2011 By Tony Scholes

This will be just his second Burnley game since becoming a Football League referee ahead of the 2008/09 season but the first in the league.

His previous game was our Carling Cup 1st round tie this season against Burton Albion. He had a marathon that night as we ran out 6-3 winners after extra time and he did play his part. He's the only referee to have awarded Burnley a penalty this season. He gave us two in the Burton game but the first, which brought about the first goal of the game was a poor decision with Charlie Austin fouled outside of the box.

Other than that he had a good enough game and it earned him a rating of 77.86 and 9th place in RATE THE REF which is a high score.

There were four yellow cards in the game and it is something we can expect. In just 16 games this season he's reached 60 yellow cards along with five red cards. Of those yellow cards, 28 have gone to home team players and 32 to away team players.

He's refereed three Championship games this season but the red cards have all come in games lower down including two in the League Two clash between Plymouth and Port Vale. Marc Richards was the Port Vale player sent off forcing him to miss their Carling Cup tie against us.

His last game was Crawley's 3-0 home win against Burton last Saturday with Claude Davis (Crawley) and Adam Bolder (Burton) both yellow carded.

The assistant referees are Stephen Rubery (Essex) and Adrian Tranter (Dorset). The fourth official is Andrew Laver (Hampshire)
