Paterson, the only Claret to play

Graham Alexander and Steven Fletcher had both started in Scotland's 2-0 win against Macedonia on Saturday but both were strangely left out by George Burley for tonight's crunch game against Holland.

The Scots were beaten by a late goal and that sees them out of the competition but for another Burnley player sat warming the bench it was a different matter. Andre Bikey was again an unused substitute as they played Gabon for the second time in four days. They won again to go top of their group.

Former Burnley player Kyle Lafferty missed their game tonight through injury and that let Martin Paterson in for his fourth international start. It was a disappointing night for Paterson too. Northern Ireland were beaten 2-0 at Windsor Park by Slovakia with Paterson replaced by West Brom's Chris Brunt with fourteen minutes to go.
