Such were the quality of their two goals that Steven Thompson's wonderful left footed half volley at Reading was pushed into third place with a meagre 6.7% of the vote.

It was the first goal in that play off semi-final at the Madejski that won it. Paterson picked up the ball on the right hand side and made a run inside before unleashing a left footer into the corner leaving Marcus Hahnemann helpless.

That goal won him 46.2% of the vote and that was just ahead of the 44.8% claimed by Elliott for his goal at Wembley last Monday that confirmed our return to top flight football.

These two quality goals now go in with twelve other goals from this season in our goal of the season vote. It is now online and the vote will run until the end of Wednesday.

Robbie Blake has already won the Player of the Year. He has four goals in the goal of the season poll, more than any other player, but it looks as though the two from April/May could be the favourites.
