As was the case last season the player of the season will be determined by the results of our man of the match polls alongside the results of the player ratings threads on the message board throughout the season.

Again there will be three points awarded to each winner, with two points and one point to second and third, for all league and cup games this season.

Martin Paterson, making his competitive debut for the Clarets at Hillsborough, has taken top billing both after scoring our goal and turning in a good performance overall in an otherwise poor team performance.

Such was his performance that he won both comfortably, particularly the man of the match poll in which he claimed 70.3% of the vote. It was another of the new signings Chris Eagles who was in second place but with just 9.7% of the vote was some considerable distance behind.

Third place went to left back Stephen Jordan with just 5.2% of the vote and he collects a single point.

It was the same top two in the player ratings. Paterson led the way again with an average rating of 7.71 out of 10 and with it maximum points. Eagles was again second, and his rating was 6.38 whilst Robbie Blake with a below average rating of 5.48 scored high enough to take third place.

Voting is now underway for the man of the match from our Carling Cup tie at Bury. It will run until the end of tomorrow and can be found down the right hand side of the front page.

The first table is as follows:

6: Martin Paterson
4: Chris Eagles
1: Robbie Blake & Stephen Jordan
