Paterson bid accepted

The Iron have today given permission for Paterson to speak to Burnley after accepting an offer worth £1.3 million plus add ons as well as a 20% sell on clause.

Burnley first moved for the Northern International striker even before last season had ended and then had two offers turned down. The first was for £400,000 and then the second bid was £450,000 plus a guaranteed further £100,000.

Scunthorpe turned down both those offers and when Paterson handed in a transfer request they turned it down and very publicly said he was not for sale. However, it was thought that a bigger offer would force their hand although something around £750,000 had been suggested.

Paterson will now have talks with the Clarets. Burnley are his first choice and unless there are any hitches he is expected to sign. If and when he does it will smash our transfer record of £1 million that we first paid in 2000 when we brought Ian Moore from Stockport.
