Paterson - no bid made yet

They have thought confirmed that Burnley have made an enquiry after contacting chairman Steve Wharton and it is believed that a formal bid is in the offing for the striker who scored thirteen league goals in his first season for Scunthorpe after signing from Stoke.

Whether a £400,000 bid would land him is somewhat doubtful. Norwich had a bid close to double that turned down in January for the player who cost Scunthorpe an initial £275,000 last summer after the fee was decided by a tribunal. They have since had to pay a further £60,000 to Stoke because of his appearances and the Potteries club would be entitled to more should he move because of a 20% sell on clause.

It is thought that Paterson is one of our main targets and it would be something of a surprise if Burnley didn't pursue this. But, as was the case in January, we will not be prepared to pay more than we think he is worth.
