He joined Charlton on Christmas Eve two years ago when they were still in the Premiership. It looked for a while that he might keep them in there but they went down whilst his old club West Ham stayed up.
Last season saw them as promotion favourites for some time but they fell away and this season's form has been such that they are in the bottom three with no real suggestion of a much needed push for the top flight before the parachute money comes to an end.
The parting of the ways is by mutual consent and Charlton become the third Championship side to make a change this season following on from QPR and Watford.
