Heath was appointed after owner Phil Rawlins set up a formal partnership with English club Stoke City which is where Heath started his playing career. This partnership involves the sharing of information and players with the Aztex acting as a potential player resource for the Potteries club, and it is hoped they will unearth some previously untapped American talent.
They are currently playing in the USL Southern Conference Mid-South Division but from 2009 will play in the league's top division the USL First Division as an expansion side.
They have also, since announcing their move to the league, bought the USL Premier Development League Mid South Division side Austin Stampede and rebranded them as Austin Aztex U23. This side is coached by Wolfgang Sunholz who spent three years with Bayern Munich during his playing days.
The U23 team will play their home games at the Dragon Stadium in Round Rock.
