Our 2009/10 kit

Last updated : 04 August 2008 By Tony Scholes

For this coming season Burnley will be sporting two new kits. The home kit is claret shirt with sky blue trim, white shorts and socks, and the away kit is sky blue with claret trim, claret shorts and sky blue socks. But what would we like for the 2009/10 season?

It may seem premature to be even discussing this, but the club will already be planning it, and they will be seeking out potential manufacturers which may or may not mean an extended stay with Italian company Errea.

I have a very clear idea on what I would like to see Burnley wear throughout the 2009/10 season, right down to the design of the socks, and it will come as no surprise to people that know me and who know that I am something of a traditionalist where football kit is concerned to hear that I'm harking back once more to the 1960s.

This time it is for a very specific and a very special reason. The 2009/10 season will be the fiftieth anniversary of the Clarets lifting the Football League Championship for the second time and wouldn't it would be a superb idea if, in a year's time, we were planning to play throughout the entire 2009/10 season in exact replicas of those home and away kits.

That would mean a claret home shirt with a blue V neck, blue sleeves with claret trim. The shorts would be plain white whilst the socks would be claret and blue hoops, a style not worn by Burnley since the end of the 1964/65 season.

The away shirt would be white with a thin claret and a thin blue stripe on the V neck. That would be accompanied with plain black shorts along with white socks with a claret and a blue band on the turn over.

Maybe, if possible, those two shirts for the duration of the season would carry the old County Borough of Burnley Coat of Arms as they did fifty years earlier when Burnley became champions of England.

This could be the last significant anniversary we can celebrate with those players who were part of that wonderful era for Burnley Football Club, all but one of them will be in their 70s or 80s by the time the 2009/10 season comes to an end.

Am I letting the past get in the way of the future or do you, like me, think this would be a brilliant idea, one that I am sure would see record replica shirt sales for the club in twelve months time?

Please let me know your thoughts on this, please EMAIL them to us here at Clarets Mad and we'll include your comments on the site.

Should the majority think this is not the best idea in the world that will be the end of it, but should you, like me, be in favour then I'll ensure our thoughts and ideas are passed on to Chairman Barry Kilby and to Chief Executive Paul Fletcher. I have already spoken to both of them in the last week, neither have suggested it is a bad idea.

But what do you think?
