Oster had been with Reading for there years but wasn't offered a new deal and for much of the last few weeks looked set to join Derby County after training with them. He did receive an offer from Paul Jewell but turned it down.

From there he started training with Palace and today he's agreed a deal with Neil Warnock that will see him play for them on a short term deal until the next transfer window in January.

Palace will be his eighth club in total for the Welsh international who started his career with Grimsby.

Warnock said of his new signing: "I think the squad is a little thin on the ground and John gives us that little bit of experience especially away from home. He keeps hold of the ball and looks to get past his marker and get crosses in, so it gives us other options about where to play Sean Scannell and some of the other lads."
