Oster was released by the Clarets after failing to agree terms and has trained with a number of clubs over the pre-season period including Preston North End for whom he played one game.

More recently he has been at Millwall and yesterday their new manager Colin Lee said he would speak to the player today regards signing for the London club. Lee though will be too late as Oster agreed a deal with Reading yesterday and signed on the dotted line.

Director of football at Reading said of Oster, “John is a very talented footballer who can play on either wing or in a more advanced central position. His signature adds further quality and depth to our midfield and gives John a great opportunity to become an important player here. We are very pleased to bring him here.”

Reading become Oster’s seventh club. He has previously played for Grimsby, Everton, Sunderland, Barnsley and Leeds as well as the Clarets.
