Olivier back at Turf Moor

Last updated : 07 April 2006 By Tony Scholes

That one visit was in 2003 in a game that ended 1-1 against Rotherham, when he had a good game. but we've seen the 47 year old official a number of times on the road. He upset Stan Ternent during a 2-1 defeat at Watford in the 2002/03 season, this was after he had sent off Mark McGregor for a professional foul on a player who was some distance offside.

It was then that Stan produced the gem, “The incompetence of referees needs to improve,” and Olivier was back in red card action when he last too charge of a Burnley game earlier this season, although we can hardly complain at the dismissal of Garreth O'Connor at Reading.

It's not his first game between Burnley and QPR, his very first Burnley game was our 1-0 win at Loftus Road back in October 2000, a game we won 1-0 with a goal from John Mullin.

This season, in his very next game after our defeat at Reading, he sent off Colchester's Wayne Brown in their 0-0 draw at Bristol City but his third, and only other, yellow card came in February when Leicester's Patrick McCarthy was dismissed in his side's 1-1 home draw with Leeds.

He does tend to favour the home sides when the yellow cards are handed out, in 23 games this season there have been 64 yellow cards with just 20 of them going to home players and 44 to away players. This is no surprise with this referee, it seems to be the same every year with him. It would make a change to see a home at Turf Moor.

He will be assisted by J Carter (Tyne & Wear) and William Smallwood (Cheshire) and fourth official duties will be carried out by Craig Barker (Yorkshire).
