Oldham target could be Mills

With Shrewsbury having been relegated it is Oldham who are leading the way and manager Lee Johnson has hinted that a deal could be done very soon.

He's just completed the signing of former Burnley loan goalkeeper Paul Rachubka for a further year and has now turned his attentions towards a left sided defender following the departure of Jonathan Grounds to Birmingham.

Last week Johnson told the Oldham Chronicle: "We have to find a way of achieving deals, possibly with the player being paid off by his current club or being paid less than he might have expected."

In the same interview he confirmed that Mills had been very much a success at Oldham last season for whom he played 14 times between August and November during a 93 day emergency loan.

Today Johnson has admitted that he's closing in on signings with a left-back and midfielder believed to be his immediate targets, and Mills would certainly fit the bill for the defensive position.

He has one year remaining on his contract at Turf Moor but he hasn't played for the Clarets since April 2013 when he lined up at left-back against Bristol City at home, a game we won 3-1. It was one of only two starts he's made since Sean Dyche became manager and in total he's made just ten league appearances for Burnley.
