Oldham keen on Mills return

Joseph Mills has played 14 times for Oldham

Mills was signed for Burnley by previous manager Eddie Howe on a season long loan deal in the summer of 2012 and was in the first team at the start of the 2012/13 season. He was left out after six games and has since made only infrequent appearances.

However, a deal had been agreed with Mills signing a permanent two year deal last summer. It was clear he wasn't in the manager's plans with both Ben Mee and Danny Lafferty ahead of him for the left back berth and less than two weeks into the season he made a temporary move to Oldham in a one month loan deal.

That was twice extended to the maximum of 93 days for an emergency loan and, before his return to Burnley on 23rd November, he made a total of fourteen league and cup appearances for the League One club.

Since his return to Turf Moor he hasn't featured due to a hernia injury. He's expected to be fit soon and Johnson could make a bid to take him again, although Mills will not be permitted under the rules to play for Oldham again this season on an emergency loan.

Much will depend on Manchester City's Ellis Plummer who signed a five week youth loan deal just a few days after Mills' return to Turf Moor. Johnson has not made a decision as yet as to whether to extend that deal and should he do so then any move for Mills would be unlikely although he is believed to be keen to see Mills back at Boundary Park.

Mills, now 24, last played for Burnley in last season's 3-1 home win against Bristol City.
