Oldham again for Clarets

Last updated : 14 August 2008 By Tony Scholes
A year ago we were drawn against them having beaten Grimsby in a penalty shoot out and tonight we've been paired with them again in a tie that will be played in two weeks time. That game ended in a 3-0 win for the Clarets with Andy Gray, Robbie Blake and Ade Akinbiyi all scoring second half goals for the Clarets.

Burnley v Oldham cup ties are not a regular occurrence and these two are the only times we've met in this competition whilst we've played each other in the FA Cup (1973/74) and Anglo Scottish Cup (1978/79) just once.

Oldham won through last night after an eventful game at Rochdale. It ended goalless although Lee Hughes missed a penalty for the Latics who also had Craig Davies, the former Wolves and Hellas Verona player, sent off.

After 120 minutes without a goal they were easy 4-1 winners of the shoot out with Hughes making amends by converting the winning penalty.

The game is expected to be played on Tuesday 26th August.
